Royal Caribbean Suites to Avoid: A Guide for Smart Cruisers

Ahmad razaBy Ahmad razaSeptember 13, 2024No Comments4 Mins Read

Royal Caribbean is known for offering a variety of suites that elevate the cruising experience. However, not all suites are created equal. While most suites offer comfort and luxury, some are less desirable due to location, layout, or noise. Knowing which ones to avoid can save you from a less-than-perfect vacation. Here’s a guide to help you steer clear of the suites that might not live up to your expectations.

    1. Suites Near Noisy Areas

Royal Caribbean ships are filled with entertainment options, but that can also mean noise. Suites located near nightclubs, theaters, pool decks, or other busy areas can suffer from excessive noise.

    • Suites on Lower Decks: Lower-deck suites can sometimes be located directly above engine rooms, theaters, or even nightclubs. Noise and vibrations from these areas can be constant, especially at night.
    • Avoid Suites Near Elevators and Staircases: These areas tend to have heavy foot traffic, which can lead to noise throughout the day and night.

    2. Obstructed View Suites

One of the perks of booking a suite is the expansive balcony or window views. Unfortunately, some suites have obstructed views, meaning you may be staring at a lifeboat instead of the open sea.

    • Central Park and Boardwalk View Suites (Oasis Class): While they offer views of the ship’s interior, these suites don’t provide ocean views. If you’re expecting panoramic ocean views, avoid these.
    • Suites Below Lifeboats or Other Structures: Some suites, particularly on higher decks, may have lifeboats hanging directly in front of your balcony. Make sure to review deck plans before booking to ensure you have a clear view.

    3. Suites Near the Pool or Sun Deck

While having quick access to the pool may seem convenient, suites located near the pool or sun deck can suffer from early morning and late-night noise.

    • Suites Directly Below the Pool Deck: The pool area is active from early in the morning to late at night. Not only can noise from deck chairs being moved around be an issue, but you may also experience loud music from poolside parties.
    • Avoid Suites Near the Water Slides or Sports Courts: These areas can be particularly noisy during the day, which can disrupt any peace and quiet you may want in your suite.

    4. Forward-Facing and Aft Suites

While suites located at the front (forward) or back (aft) of the ship often come with larger balconies, they also come with their own set of challenges.

    • Forward Suites: These suites can experience more movement, which is noticeable during rough seas. If you’re prone to seasickness, it’s better to avoid suites in the forward sections.
    • Aft Suites: While aft suites offer great views, they can also feel vibrations from the ship’s engines, especially on lower decks. Noise and vibrations from the thrusters when docking can also be disruptive.

    5. Suites with Poor Layout

Some Royal Caribbean suites have awkward layouts that can make your stay less comfortable. This can include strange furniture placement, smaller-than-expected bathrooms, or poorly designed living spaces.

    • Junior Suites with Awkward Bathroom Layouts: Some Junior Suites on certain ships feature bathrooms that feel cramped or have awkward layouts. Checking deck plans or reviews ahead of time can help you avoid these.
    • Suites with Tiny Balconies: Some suites may come with smaller balconies than expected, which can be disappointing, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time outside enjoying the ocean breeze.

    Conclusion

While Royal Caribbean offers a wide array of suites, it’s important to do your research before booking. By avoiding suites that are near noisy areas, have obstructed views, or come with awkward layouts, you can ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience. Always check deck plans, read reviews, and consider the location of your suite carefully before making your final decision.
